R.O.K Entertainment a promotion group in SVG with the support of some business houses namely
Digicel & KFC will be hosting a Mega National Charity Event @ the
Victoria Park on Friday 28th Dec
07.
The name of the event is “CAN FEST” with slogan; “My Can and Your Can for Charity”. As the name and Slogan suggests this event is designed to raise some 40,000 Cans of Food for the local Charities in St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
Charities such as the Salvation Army, Red Cross, Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, the Mental Home, the Children’s Ward, St. Benedicts day Nursery and the House of
Hope. Apart from these charities R.O.K will be working with the Social Welfare Office to ensure that the donated food items reach the poorer families and communities in SVG as we celebrate the season for giving and sharing.
The group’s motivation for undertaking this project came out of their belief that everybody can and should make a contribution to charity in their own small way; whether through volunteerism or by giving/sharing. Charity should not be seen as an act reserved only for
the Rich or Wealthy but even the ordinary person. If everybody contributes in their own little way, collectively it will have an immense impact on the lives of the less fortunate among us.
To engage this aim a comprehensive entertainment package featuring an
international Reggae & Dancehall Jamaican artist, Dance groups and individual dancers, Comedy, DJs to rock the Old and young and the best of the local talents will be provided at the Victoria Park to all at $0. However, to enter the venue patrons must bring 3 CANS of food in exchange for a FREE ticket to enter the show hence the “CAN FEST” Theme.
Digicel the mobile phone giant and KFC were the first business houses to immediately pledge their support to this venture making it possible for the public to make a small contribution to the local charities in exchange for FREE entertainment. Both companies saw this as a noble and worthy cause.
The Ministry of Urban Development & Culture endorsed the event and referred to the initiative in a letter dated 24th Oct 07; as “commendable and recognizes its importance as the proceeds can touch the lives of many disadvantaged persons in our country”.
